Pablo Navarrete, Caracas: Evo Morales´victory in the Bolivian elections held last Sunday has been welcomed by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. According to Chavez, Bolivians had to wait 500 years until they were finally able to have an Aymara Indian as President and this represents, “a real and true historical vindication,” said Chavez. It is hoped that Morales will become a key Chavez ally in a region that has seen various centre-left and left candidates win office in recent years.
Chávez is right about Morales. Of course, 500 years ago there were no "Bolivians", but let's not allow those pesky facts to sully his beautiful rhetoric.
