Last Saturday December 4 two events in solidarity with Venezuela were held in London. Hands Off Venezuela (HOV) held their first national conference in which Ruben Linares, a national coordinator of the UNT, the main Venezuelan trade union, spoke along with key figures in the British labour and trade union movement such as Tony Benn, the veteran leader of the Labour Party Left, and the Labour members of parliament, John McDonnell and Jeremy Corbyn, leaders of the left wing Campaign Group of Labour MPs. On the same day a conference entitled 'Latin America 2005' co-organised by the Venezuela Information Centre (VIC) was held and included Carlos Polanco, adviser to the Venezuelan Ministry of Education and British journalist Richard Gott speaking about the situation in Venezuela.
